Below we will demonstrate how you can use these printouts to build your own board and binder, using eco-friendly material.
1) Islamic Morning Calendar
The Islamic Morning Calendar board was designed to teach your child the weather, seasons, how they are feeling, and both the Gregorian and Hijri dates, both in English and Arabic, in an interactive way.
Material needed to build your board:
- Trifold Display Board or a Bristol Board
- Scissors
- Glue or Adhesive Putty
- Brad Fasteners
- Small clips
- Twine
- Hole puncher

Cut out and assemble the board as shown above.
How to use the board:
Every morning, start by reciting the surah you are focusing on with your child. We started with Surat Al-Fatihah.
Then recite some Morning Dhikr. You can find some duas in the Fortress of the Muslim, available in Arabic, English and other languages.
After that, bring your child to the board and ask them to choose what season it is. Ask them why did they choose this particular season and what are the signs they see to show that.
Reading books in the beginning of each season helps teach your child the different seasons and what signs to look for.
After that you would ask the child to choose the weather. Ask them what are the signs they see, hear, smell, feel, and perhaps taste that guide them to their choice.
Move on to asking them how they are feeling today and why.
You can also share how you are feeling and try to connect emotionally with your child by sharing their excitement or expressing your concern, depending on how they are feeling.
Then complete the Gregorian and Hijri Calendar for the day together, reminding them of what yesterday was and what tomorrow will be insha’Allah.
This activity should take about 15-20 minutes.
2) Preschool Basics Binder/Basket
There are certain basics your 2-4 year old toddler need to have a solid foundation with before moving to advanced Surahs in the Quran, more complex concepts in Math and Science and learning how to read.
The Basics are:
- Letters of your Native language
- Arabic Letters
- Numbers 1-20
- Colours
- Shapes
- Surat Al-Fatihah, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas and other short Surahs
- Saying Bismillah and Alhamdolellah
- Some Duas, for example the dua’ of waking up and going to sleep, the dua’ before going to the washroom, and the dua’ of going out of the house. The Fortress of the Muslim has many of those duas.
- Some animal names, especially farm and local animals.
- Some fruits and vegetables, especially local ones.
- Days of the week, and the months (both Gregorian and Hijri months)
You can teach these basics by using flashcards, interactive sheets, educational toys and rhymes.
